Canada 150
The Canada 150 project was a collaborative collection of works between established London artists and our New School of Colour emerging artists. The theme of these works celebrate life in Canada in honour of Canada's 150th anniversary. The works were part of a travelling exhibition and appeared in galleries throughout London. Two works are now on permanent display at the London & Middlesex Housing Corporation and one at the Ark Aid Street Mission.
This initiative was made possible by the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, a collaboration between The Ark Aid Street Mission Inc., the Government of Canada, and extraordinary leaders from coast to coast to coast.

'Querencia' (above) by Tryla Thorpe and Haily Tallman combines nine canvases in one artwork. A multi-media piece that uses diversity throughout, yet presents a unified mood, it shares Canada's greatest attribute. The title is Spanish, synonymous with comfortable, homey, secure.
'Tales of Lake Superior' (below) by Diane Bamford and Jeremy Jeresky is a tribute to the Canadian artists that have been capturing our nation for more than 150 years. Based on one of Lauren Harris' paintings from his days in the Goup of Seven.

'Canada Connects Us All' (above) by Loretta Rice and Mitra Shreeram is a static display of objects. Each item was brought to Canada by immigrants as a relic of their parent country, some having been passed down the family line. Loretta crafted the red and white macrame cords that join the items, mounting several Canadian lapel pins along the lengths. These items will all be returned to their owners after the final venue.
'Divvy-Up, Eh' (below) by Maggie Traynor and Marshall Custus also looks at how diversity plays an important part in Canada's history and current policy. By inviting the world to come here and start a new life, sharing in our resources and potential, we create an open-minded culture capable of understanding many perspectives.
