Marshall Custus: Programming

Feb. 2017, London, ON, Canada
As the longest serving volunteer at the New School of Colour I have seen quite a few changes, and challenges. The amount of growth the members and program have experienced has kept me interested since 2010, even though I have not always been able to participate.
Jeremy Jeresky's vision of an art creation that includes social interaction and involvement has developed into a sustainable workshop for creativity. He has now endorsed my leadership while he continues his education and his personal artistic journey.
I agree with Jeremy that all members of a society have an equally relevant 'voice' in regards to their artistic work, and my personal experience has given me an appreciation for the stabilizing effects of being creative.
With the help and support of many, I am focused on sharing the opportunity to develop and showcase the member’s artwork. I hope to help the individuals enrich themselves using the natural self-discovery possible through being creative. Additionally to have their efforts viewed as part of a more complete artistic statement of our society. I am grateful to Jeremy, and Doug Whitelaw, Director of the Ark Aid Street Mission, for their initiative, open-mindedness, and continuing support.
I had to look up all the words over 7 letters in this statement, I think in much less sophisticated language. 'See it, draw it, paint it. Smile.' is what I share in the studio.
Support for Marshall in 2018 was generously provided by Westminster College Foundation.
